ROSS

Born and brought up in Aberdeenshire, I studied modern languages at Dundee University. I spent considerable periods of time in France and in Germany before eventually settling in historical Perth. Most of my career has been spent in secondary education, but I have done occasional guiding since 2000– mainly walking tours in the Highlands.

I relish the experience of contributing to and enhancing guests’ enjoyment of their visit to Scotland and have decided to become a full-time guide. I am passionate about Scotland and would love to help you discover some of its unique landscapes, history and culture.

I know Scotland well and can talk about all things Scottish, but have a particular interest in railways, food and traditions as well as castles and mysteries. I would be only too delighted to tailor an itinerary to suit your particular interests.

Why not include a visit to a remote island; a trip on one of Scotland’s scenic railways or a panoramic walk in the Highlands? Scotland has so much to offer and it would be a great pleasure for me to share it with you.

WHAT MAKES ME SPECIAL

Having lived in Scotland my entire life, I have a wealth of information about everyday life today and in the past.

tour with me because

be it in the Highlands or anywhere in Scotland, I’ll introduce you to the places and entertain you with fascinating stories as well as some fun facts.

WHAT I’M LIKE

My friends tell me I’m affable, even tempered and quietly humorous.

FAVOURITE SCOTTISH FOOD

My favourite Scottish meal is Haggis, neeps and tatties. Haggis is often called the national dish of Scotland and consists of sheep’s offal mixed with suet, oatmeal and spices. It’s delicious. Let’s try some together! Neeps and Tatties are Scottish words for turnips and potatoes.

AN OBSCURE FACT

Something that might surprise you about me is that in a previous job as a waiter, I served a Hollywood legend who was in Scotland filming the iconic film Local Hero.

FAVOURITE SCOTTISH SONG

It has to be The Northern Lights of Aberdeen as it reminds me of family gatherings as a child. I also love Walking on the Waves by Skipinnish – a traditional Scottish folk group from Tiree – one of my favourite places.

FAVOURITE PLACE

So difficult to decide, but I adore the village of Plockton in Wester Ross. I love walking along the lochside beside the palm trees and stopping for a coffee and looking over to Duncraig Castle. In the evening, you can’t beat the Plockton Inn where local musicians congregate and perform every Thursday evening. The food is fantastic as well!
