MEET THE GUIDES

ALAN PRYDE

Alan

Pryde

Hi! I’m Alan Pryde. I was born in Edinburgh though I grew up in Dundee and studied history at Dundee University too.

I spent some time in Spain but lived for over 20 years in Italy – so perhaps it’s no surprise that I also guide in Italian! I have had a wide variety of careers from working as a TV Football Producer to Teaching.

I have a wide range of interests with knowledge of the history of Scotland being my top passion, with perhaps the Jacobite struggle being my favourite period. I am also enthusiastic about the geography and nature of this wonderful country so I can talk in detail about the wildlife that you will see when you are here. Another great interest of mine is sport and in particular football and golf. I can’t wait to show you as much as possible during your time here and to make sure that your stay is fun, enjoyable … and of course that you have acquired a lot of knowledge about Scotland!

WHAT MAKES ME SPECIAL

My main passion is history, in particular the turbulent Jacobite period. I love sport in particular football, rugby and golf so I would be the perfect person to show you this. I also know a lot about Scotland’s nature and how our landscape has changed over the years.

tour with me because

I would love to show you around the most important historical sites both in Scotland’s capital as well as the Highlands and Islands.

WHAT I’M LIKE

My colleagues believe I always have a smile on my face and I believe that tours have to be fun above all. I believe that friends know how passionate I am about Scotland.

FAVOURITE SCOTTISH FOOD

My favourite Scottish food would have to be tablet. Very similar to fudge (with even more calories), it really is delicious!

AN OBSCURE FACT

I have had a few strange jobs. I once commentated on the European handball championships online despite having no knowledge of the sport!

FAVOURITE SCOTTISH MUSIC

My favourite Scottish band is The Corries. This 1960s Scottish folk group actually came up with the (unofficial) Scottish national anthem Flower of Scotland.

FAVOURITE PLACE

My favourite place would have to be Holyrood Park in Edinburgh – a piece of wild Scotland right in the middle of Edinburgh. Even when Edinburgh is full of visitors, there are still quiet spots there to enjoy.
